More than a challenge
We are delighted to announce that ISA bodywear has entered into an exciting partnership with Louis Margot and his
project «Human Impulse».
Louis Margot wants to break the record for circumnavigating the globe using pure muscle power alone. Within 2.5 years, the 30-year-old Swiss national from Morges aims to cover 50,000 kilometres by bike and rowing boat. The current Guinness World Record stands at five years and eleven days. After practising rowing at international level for years and undertaking long cycling tours, he now wants to follow his impulse and take on this extraordinary challenge. With his project, Louis wants to encourage young people to take initiative in their lives. He wants to inspire them to find the strength to follow their impulse and make their dreams come true. He came up with the idea for this project during a 3,000-kilometre charity cycling tour to Istanbul in 2017. The second discipline, rowing, has accompanied Louis since he was 13 years old. In 2010, he became junior world champion in the coxed four. Later, he spent a year at Cambridge University and, as a member of the Boat Club, took part in the annual competition against Oxford University.
To make «Human Impulse» a reality, Louis has been able to win over a support team of family, friends and sponsors. The «Human Impulse» project was preceded by a long period of preparation. Louis bought a boat from Dave Bell, who in 2021 became the first person to row unsupported from the USA to Great Britain. Through exercises on Lake Geneva and a navigation/survival course near London, he learned how to be self-sufficient at sea.
«The greatest challenge will be the hard work that continues every day over such a long period of time», says Louis himself. But he also says that he is looking forward to the chance to be alone and have time to reflect. A rare opportunity in normal life.
On 02.09.2023, Louis set off from his home town of Morges. The first stage took him by bike via Geneva to Portimão in Portugal. About a month later, he will exchange his bike there for a rowing boat and begin rowing across the Atlantic to Colombia. The goal is then to cycle to California by June 2024. The final stage in January 2026 is crossing the Pacific to Bali and returning to Morges by bike.
During his journey, Louis will cross five continents and around thirty countries.
Louis wants to use this challenge to raise awareness of the climate crisis and excessive energy consumption. Our commitment to environmentally friendly textile production aligns perfectly with this vision of promoting an environmentally friendly lifestyle. Throughout his journey, he will embody the shared values of «Human Impulse» and ISA bodywear. We are proud to have won him over as an ambassador for the topic of sustainability! We are very much looking forward to accompanying Louis on his journey and his goal of setting a new world record.
